Last month New York Magazine's February cover art featured a black and white photo of a line of women behind the highlighted title "THIS ISN'T WORKING". The issue was dedicated to sharing the myriad of concerns surrounding the loss of women in the workplace since the onset of the pandemic, the shockingly low representation of women now still fully employed (according to the article, "The percentage of women in the workforce is now as low as it was in 1988.") and the fragility of a system that obviously wasn't built for and isn't working for women, particularly women of color.
Included in the cover stories was an article by Angela Garbes, The Numbers Don’t Tell the Whole Story: Unemployment statistics can’t capture the full extent of what women have lost. It was her piece that prompted us to create a free virtual event dedicated to the topic, and we are thrilled that she will be joining The Fold's Arts & Culture Editor, Nora Gomez-Strauss and Founder / Executive Editor, Amanda Carter Gomes to discuss how women are coping (spoiler alert: we're not) and where we go from here.
